What is a ChapApp?
First of all, it is not an app. That is, not like you're thinking.
ChapApp stands for Chapter-Application. At Calvary Victoria, we really like to encourage every single member of the body to be reading their Bibles- every single day. Seriously!
The Word of God is the source of all spiritual guidance and growth as a Christian. Don't believe me? Ask Jesus:
Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. -John 17:17 (Jesus talks in red)
Sanctify means to set apart as holy... that's Christian growth and maturity. How are we sanctified? By Gods truth. Awesome. (Cue Pontious Pilot):
What is truth? (Respond Jesus):
Your Word is truth. Boom. End of story. God's Word (aka The Bible) is the truth that causes Christian growth and maturity... holiness and set-apartness.
So, back to ChapApps. Because daily Bible reading can be both daunting and boring (sad but true, right?), I have followed in the footsteps of better men than myself (well, sort of, oh never mind), and implemented a super simple system (yeah, I don't try to do that first letter thing- it just happens sometimes) AND to get to the point without interrupting myself again...
.... a super simple system that basically just involves: 1. reading a chapter of the Bible, 2. finding one verse in it that you like, and 3. applying it to your life in a prayer. Done.
It takes no more than 15 minutes, although I myself love to drag it out over a cup of tea.
The goal is to have a real authentic conversation with Jesus, where He speaks (the Bible) and you listen, and then you speak (application based prayer) and He listens. I prefer to write out my application and prayer in a journal, so I can actually recall it later, and that is what I encourage everyone in a ChapApp group to do.
So, a ChapApp group is a weekly get together of ladies (or men- you guys can get started on this too!) in which everyone shares one "ChapApp" with each other. You simply pick out one of those verses that you applied to yourself from the past week that you feel would be nice to share with others... and you share it. Everyone shares. The group usually meets over tea or coffee at a local coffee shop or in the house of one of the group members. Sometimes people even take turns hosting. Every group is a little different, but all are about what Jesus is teaching you in His Word each week.
If you would like to be part of a ChapApp in your community, feel free to contact me by email or phone, and I will put you in touch with a group leader in your area. Once you join a group, they will show you practically how to write and share a ChapApp. It's super simple and everyone can easily do it. To boot, it's a lot of fun and makes getting into the Bible
daily very doable.
Until then, get into the Word! and let God speak to you :)
Cheers.
